December
is a fabulous month for theatre lovers as not only plays influenced by
famous dramatist Henrik Ibsen's works will be staged at the Delhi Ibsen
festival, but veteran theatre personality, Lushin Dubey, will be staging
her play 'Ji Saab Ji' for the city audience.
"For once, I have taken a smaller, much quieter and softer role," says
Lushin. Known for her powerful and mind blowing performances in plays
such as 'Macbeth', 'Muskaan' and 'Bitter Chocolate' ( to name a few ).
Lushin will not only act in the play but she is also the producer and
director of 'Ji Saab Ji'. "This play is a tribute to my father. It is
basically a play set against a background of terrorism. The emphasis in
the play is on the human and very real relationship between a young boy
and an old man", she adds.
"The play is unique. It is about humanity. I saw my father in his last
stages and he used to educate his attendants who were taking care of him.
No one cried more on his death bed than these boys. He used to teach the
boys about the values of human communion that rise above religion or class.
The play tries to bring in that." The play took a month of hard work for
the artistes to practice it to perfection. "Lights, set designers, production
manager, costume designer and all the people associated with it, have
put in tremendous energy into the production," she says.
Dancers from Ashley Lobo's Danceworx are also a part of the show. "This
will be more of a physical theatre performance than a dance show," says
Lushin.
To give more impact to the play, the music has been given by Rahul Ram
and Amit Kilm from the Indian Ocean Group.
